How We Calculate

Every RenoSheets estimate is plain arithmetic applied to your measurements — no guesswork, no hidden padding. This page documents the assumptions so you can trust (and check) the numbers.

Our principles

• Transparent assumptions. Coverage rates, coats and waste allowances are shown on every calculator and can be adjusted.
• Standard waste factors. We apply widely accepted allowances (for example ~10% for cuts and waste) and round up to whole purchasable units.
• Consumables vs. tools. We calculate quantities for consumables (paint, tape, grout) and simply recommend buy-once tools.

Example: paint

Paintable area = (room perimeter × wall height) − door and window openings. Gallons = paintable area × coats × (1 + waste%) ÷ coverage (350–400 sq ft per gallon). We round up to whole gallons.
